Dr. Lee Bee Wah is a name that commands respect and admiration among adult Singaporeans. Born on 6 October 1960, in Johor, Malaysia, her early life was marked by the harsh realities of rural living, with her parents working as rubber tappers. Despite these humble beginnings, Lee’s determination and resilience shone through. She excelled academically, eventually moving to Singapore, where she earned a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering from Nanyang Technological University and a Master of Science in Maritime Civil Engineering from the University of Liverpool.
Lee’s career exemplifies her entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to engineering. She founded LBW Consultants, a successful engineering firm, and broke gender barriers as the first woman president of the Institution of Engineers Singapore. Her transition into politics saw her serving as a Member of Parliament for Ang Mo Kio GRC and Nee Soon GRC, where she passionately advocated for her constituents’ needs, focusing on healthcare, education, and infrastructure.
Throughout her career, Lee remained committed to social causes, particularly in promoting dementia awareness and support.
